Biography
1968 geboren in Luzern. Ausbildung in Grafik und Animation in Luzern, Liverpool und Kassel. 1995 Atelierjahr Stipendium in Krakau. Lebt als Trickfilmer und Comiczeichner in Zürich.

Claudius Gentinettais one of the most acclaimed animation filmmakers in Switzerland. He is especially known for his award-winning short films THE CABLE CAR, SLEEP and SELFIES, which all became huge international festival hits.

About myself
Born 56 years ago in Switzerland I dedicated most of my life producing animation films and weird comics. Art schools in Lucerne, Kassel and Liverpool tried to contribute their best for my education. 1995 the artest scholarship gave me the chance to spend a year in Krakow, an experience with many impressions for my further work. At the moment I am living with my family in Zurich, working at another promising new film project.

Vor dem Fenster braust ein Zug nach dem anderen vorbei, S-Bahnen transportieren die Pendler an ihre Arbeitsplätze, internationale Schnellzüge verbinden Zürich mit Europa.
Es ist eine bewegte und schillernde Sicht, die dem Blick aus dem Fenster öffnet. Das Atelier von Claudius Gentinetta liegt direkt neben an Gleisen des Zürcher Hauptbahnhofs in einem Genossenschaftshaus, das er mit zahlreichen anderen Künstlern und Handwerken teilt. Hier arbeitet er in einem grossen Raum zusammen mit zwei anderen Animationsfilmern an massiven Holztischen. Jede freie Wand ist vollgepflastert mit Skizzen aus dem Storyboard des aktuellen Films, der gerade am entstehen ist. SELFIES ist eines zynische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Portätierungswahn der heutigen Zeit.
Visiting the studio of the animator Claudius Gentinetta
Outside the window trains keep racing by, subways take commuters to their jobs and international express trains connect Zurich with Europe. The view from the window offers a fast-paced and dazzling sight. Claudius Gentinetta’s studio is directly next to the tracks of Zurich’s central station in a cooperative building that he shares with several other artists and craftspeople. In this large space he and two other animators are working at solid wood tables. Every available wall space is covered with drawings from the storyboard of the film that is currently being created. SELFIES is a cynical discourse on the self-portrait trend of the present age.
